Let's get something CLEAR

So, the situation is this:

One day, say on the 10th. January 2010, I go to the mamak stall to drink some teh tarik. As a good citizen, I would try my very best to adopt the aspirations of the leaders of this country. So I say to the mamak;

"Mamak, bagi satu teh tarik kurang manis. Harga mau kurang tau sebab itu teh kurang manis."

That is the situation with sugar consumption. Our personal desire to use less sugar could only be achieved if only we prepare beverages and food on our own. We can use as much or as little sugar as we want. But that is not the case if we buy packed foods from the supermarkets or go to eateries. We have to ingest whatever amount of sugar put in our drinks or dishes. We can't go tell the manufacturers, chefs or bartenders to reduce the amount of sugar in foods we intend to buy or consume. Even if we could warn Mr. Bartender to go easy on the sugar, he certainly would not let the price cut. I have even discovered less sweetened products like chocolates, soy bean milk and jam to be more expensive than the usual sweet version.
So, I find the price hike of sugar simply to educate the public to reduce sugar consumption as a total outrage. Please find a better excuse!
