Twelfth Night

This Shakespeare’s play is about Viola and her twin brother Sebastian. They’d look alike if Viola dressed as a man. They were on their way to Illyria when a storm struck and separated them. The captain of the ship she boarded told her that the Prince of Illyria, Prince Orsino was in love with a woman named Olivia who didn’t love him. Viola wanted to serve Olivia but she didn’t allow anybody into her house since her brother died. Viola then dressed as a boy and called herself Cesario. She served the prince and fell in love with him. She went to Olivia’s house to deliver messages from the prince. Not knowing that Cesario was actually a girl, Olivia fell in love with him, I mean Cesario of course. One day, Sebastian came to Illyria with Antonio, the captain who saved him from the storm that separated him from his twin sister. On the same day, Viola was fighting with Sir Andrew for Olivia, provoked by Sir Toby, who was Olivia’s uncle and also Sir Andrew’s friend. Antonio came when they were fighting and asked for his purse from Viola that he thought was Sebastian. The Prince’s officers saw Antonio and arrested him because he had hurt the Prince’s nephew not long before this in an incident at the sea. Viola quickly left the scene but Sebastian came after she fled. Sir Andrew thought Sebastian was Viola and they fought again. Olivia came out not long after they started fighting. She ordered Sir Andrew to go away and took Sebastian into her house. Not knowing that Olivia was in love with his sister, Sebastian was so surprised that Olivia talked nicely and lovingly to him, and even asked him to marry her. They got married and Olivia promised him that it’d be a secret. Sebastian then went out to find Antonio. Viola came back to Olivia’s house with Prince Orsino. Antonio was brought to the Prince and Viola told him that Antonio had helped her. Antonio still thought that Viola was Sebastian and the Prince thought that Antonio was mad. Antonio was brought away when Olivia came out. She didn’t want to talk to the prince but instead talked sweetly to Cesario. Then she told everybody that she was already married to Cesario. They were all confused until Sebastian came back. He called Olivia his wife and recognized Antonio. Everybody was surprised to see how alike Cesario and Sebastian were. Prince Orsino now understood what had happened and he asked Viola to marry him.
