The Tempest

The Tempest is probably the first Shakespeare’s play I have really read. The story is about how Prospero claimed back his dukedom. Prospero was the Duke of Milan before his brother Antonio, the present Duke of Milan, conspired with King of Naples, Alonso, robbed him from his dukedom. Prospero raised a storm with his magic powers one day when both Antonio and Alonso were travelling by the sea. Prospero, with help from the spirit Ariel, saved by Prospero from the evil witch Sycorex, led Ferdinand the Crown Prince of Naples to Prospero’s daughter Miranda. They immediately fell for each other. Meanwhile, Antonio proposed that Sebastian, brother of the King of Naples to kill the King and claim the throne because they thought that Ferdinand had already died in the sea. Prospero sent Ariel to Gonzalo, the King’s honest counsellor. His scream woke the King up. Ariel then reminded the three evil men of their wrong deeds, as if the sea, wind, and thunder all were talking about them and that Ferdinand’s lost was the punishment. Now that the bad guys were devastated, Prospero appeared and explained everything. He was given back his dukedom and his daughter… I guess married to the Crown Prince. The happy ending was Ariel was also freed from serving Prospero!
